Tickets to Quito are under $600. I am thinking of going to Guayaquil from there, surfing Montanita for a few days, then getting back to Quito, and trekking Andes for a few days near Chimborazo. Probably in July or August. The question is how to commute between Quito and the coast. From what I read, driving a rental is not a good option. Any experiences or advice?

Thanks! Maybe will wait till Thanksgiving. Warm water would be nice.
If you're in a hurry fly to Guayaquil on Tame or Avianca, domestic flights are cheap.
The bus station in Guayaquil is minutes from airport and organized into terminals, buses are super cheap! Guayquil is super sketchy, so try and avoid staying there.
bicker with a taxi driver, should pay $40-50 to get from Guayaquil to Montanita.
WARNING!
if you are 20 and want to party till 4am you will love Montanita! If not just go 2 miles up the road and stay and quiet Olon.
Great time to go to Ecuador in the offseason.
BUT the water can be cool. Plan for water temps 66-72.

Do es that mean you have to take a puddle jumper plane or a bus?
