I bought Thule racks and surfboard carrier when I bought my Jeep Wrangler 5 years ago. They work well since my Jeep has rain gutters, The racks lock to the Jeep and the surfboard carrier locks to the racks and the boards are locked to the carrier. The down side is the carrier will only hold 2 boards so if you want to carry more you have to buy another surfboard carrier for the other side of the racks. They are pricey too as they were $500.00 retail but I got 25 % off. It was a lot easier to fasten the boards down in the back of my truck but they got stolen at the Flag years ago during a pro-am contest. My old Aloha racks worked fine back in the day until they got eaten at a drive through car wash. :)

I had Yakima on my Tacoma, they sucked. Mainly because my doors are flush so they have no bite. Almost sent an SUP flying when I went down I 45 because it had no bite and the board started going airborne. Couldn't find a ladder rack type system for a 2009 Tacoma at the time, but they might have one now. Probably off the back of the hitch.
Anyway, sold them a while ago. Make sure you have a way to clamp them down with gutters or door jambs. My friend Drew lost a bunch of boards off the top of his Tacoma on I10 on the way to Florida. He had a camper shell too. SUP was too big to fit in the bed and he put his surfboards on top of the SUP. It was a nightmare.

I had some yakima towers on my jeep for 8 years, they are pretty basic and lasted pretty good.
Just go to REI and they'll fit it all to your vehicle.
I am now rockin' factory OEM racks on a Grand Cherokee...they whistle like a b-tch on the road unless you have pads or a bungee wrapped around them. They are good for board transport though.
